The website ‘commentonline’ was launched in April 2005 as the ‘digital daily’ edition of the monthly community news magazine ‘Comment’. This has been covering the 1000 square miles of Highland Perthshire for 25 years.
The originators of Comment sought to redress, on a homespun basis, the lack of interest in local affairs manifested by the established, city-based daily and weekly presses that nominally covered the locality.
From the outset its role was
• to support ‘the village shops’ and local enterprises;
• to celebrate both the unique and the commonplace of the various settlements and communities that make up the distinct district; and, at the same time,
• to emphasise and address their shared opportunities and threats.
The publication (in print and online) aims to offer an open access platform for expression, information and opinion to those who live, work and visit in Scotland’s heartland. It seeks to do this without promoting any particular party, sectarian, commercial, group or individual interest.
Commentonline archive contains back stories that have appeared since the online edition went live in April 2005. For ease of storage, these are simplified in layout and appear without their original accompanying pictures or graphics.
