Balllinluig Junction Upgrade Goes To Tender
The announcement by Transport Scotland that the tender documents for the upgrade of the Ballinluig Junction have been issued, that a contract is likely to be awarded in April 2007, and that construction is proposed to start in July 2007, has been greeted by North Tayside's member for Holyrood John Swinney.
The MSP, who has been a persistent campaigner on this issue, said: "On 14 September in the Scottish Parliament, I asked the Transport Minister, Tavish Scott, to give me a definitive timetable for the construction of the new Ballinluig Junction on the A9. This is a highly dangerous junction that has claimed so many lives and it is essential that the upgrade work is carried out.
No Further Delays

"I am pleased the Minister has now given a definitive timetable for the upgrade but I am disappointed that an intention to start the construction work in Spring 2007 has now been defined as July 2007. The Scottish Executive has been commenting for some months that the likely start date was Spring 2007 and it is very frustrating that this has had to be revised. There is not a big difference between Spring and July but it is a matter of concern that in just a few short months the timetable has changed.
"I recognise that the issuing of the tender documents represents further progress in bringing about the improvements of the junction, but I hope Ministers understand the real anger in the local community that a junction promised in 2002 has not begun construction to date. I hope Ministers will take account of this and guarantee there will be no further delays."
