New Era for Birnam Library

Birnam Library will embark upon a new era when it re-launches on Saturday 11 November in bigger, better and brighter room in the Birnam Institute.

The extra space has allowed for a wider selection of resources, an enlarged children’s area and room for a browsing/relaxation area for customers.

The library in Birnam has a long and illustrious past, having started life as a reading society around 1825. This evolved over the years, changing venue on many occasions (sometimes in Birnam, sometimes in Dunkeld) until what had become The Working Men’s Library outgrew its space.

An enterprising station master then mooted the idea of the Birnam Institute and proceeded to raise funds locally to make this happen.

That was the beginning of the library as users recognise it today.

The relaunch is on Saturday at 11.15am when a couple of local VIPs will cur the ribbon and a storyteller and exhibition will relate thefascinating evolution of the library.

Birnam Library is open on Saturdays from 10am until noon.
