Public Involved in Naming New Campus

Letters sent from Breadalbane Academy to parents, members of staff, school board members and interested parties are urging everyone to participate in the process for naming the new learning and training campus.

This participation is very important as the resource will be a major focal point in the Highland Perthshire area, providing education and community facilities for use by everyone.

The name may take into account the extended role of the new campus in delivering services and facilities to the wider community (eg by including a term such as ‘Community Campus’). An alternative to ‘Breadalbane’ the name might reflect a different local geographical or historical feature; (however, not generically Scottish eg “Thistle Community Campus”.)

The guidelines indicate that suggested names must avoid confusion with other schools in P&K. It would also be helpful to the school if an explanation, or reason, for a proposed new name could be included.

Criteria to Employ

Support can be expressed for retaining the existing school name and replies for this should still be sent in.

Criteria used for the short-listing of suggestions are:

* Does the name have a local connection (geographical, historical etc)?

* Does the name fit well with the school or schools involved?

* Does the name reflect the role of the campus in the community?

* Will it be easy to use (on signage, uniforms, headed paper, newsletters etc)?

All suggestions received will go through a short-listing process by the User Group, (individuals from school and the local community), with discussion led by Mr Low. The shortlist will then be considered by councillors later this year.

The closing date for suggestions is Monday 16 October and they should be marked for Mr Bothwell’s attention and submitted by post, handed in to Breadalbane Academy, or by email to ISC@breadalbane.pkc.gov.uk
