Moulin Heritage Centre Launched

NO LONGER used as a church, the historical Moulin Kirk has been purchased and re-furbished by Chris Tomlinson of the Moulin Hotel who is working in partnership with the Moulin Kirk Trust to produce exhibitions about local history to attract visitors to the area.

The formal launch of the new Heritage & Genealogy Centre took place on Saturday 22 April and was conducted by MSP John Swinney. The first exhibitions are a collection of photography about Pitlochry and Moulin and an exhibition about the Rev Alexander Duff, the Church of Scotland's first appointed missionary who was born in Moulin. The centre also includes a Highland Perthshire genealogy centre.

In opening the centre, Mr Swinney said: "I applaud the partnership that has been created between the private sector and the local community to ensure this imaginative project could get off the ground.

The work of Chris Tomlinson and the Moulin Kirk Trust is an example of how different organisations can bring their strengths together to deliver first class projects.

"This centre will be an excellent addition to the long list of attractions that bring visitors to Pitlochry and Moulin and will allow visitors to find out even more about the local area. The incorporation of a genealogy centre is very important and this is attracting a great number of visitors to Scotland. The Lottery grant will help the Trust to develop its activities and ensure there are further exhibitions that can be arranged in the future.

"This is another innovative project that has emerged from Pitlochry and the surrounding area demonstrating again the creative talent that exists to develop new ideas and new initiatives in this locality."
