Local Farmers Mark Politicians' Card
Politicians told: Farmers Are Central to Our Rural Future A meeting (pictured below) of local MSP and MP John Swinney and Pete Wishart with members of Highland Perthshire branch of NFU Scotland at Rotmell Farm, Dunkeld, provided a valuable opportunity to discuss matters of current relevance to the rural community, - especially on the burden of regulations.
“Farmers are being encouraged to develop and adapt their businesses, but their efforts are often frustrated by increasing and conflicting regulations. This is stifling economic growth in rural areas,” NFUS branch member Alistair Brewster stated. He continued: “We welcome this meeting to stress that, when new legislation is proposed or implemented, the impact on rural business must be a prime consideration.”
The visit also gave members of the branch the opportunity to emphasis the positive input of farmers to the local area. By their work, farmers help maintain and protect an environment that visitors travel thousands of miles to enjoy, and by their use of other local businesses and organisations, they support the social and economical fabric of the area. |

“We appreciate John and Pete taking time to hear our concerns at first hand and we had a positive discussion on achieving our mutual objectives of a vibrant local rural economy,” concluded the NFUS branch representative Sandy Thomson.
