Parade of the Atholl Highlanders

Highlanders On Annual Parade

AT THE ANNUAL PARADE of the Atholl Highlanders on Saturday 27 May a large crowd of locals and visitors witnessed the enrolment of 12 new recruits, including the Highlanders’ new padre, the Rev Ian Murray BD.

The Pipes and Drums of the Atholl Highlanders were led by Pipe Major Ian Duncan and Drum Major Joe Goodfellow. The inspection was performed by the Duchess of Atholl.

The consecration of the new regimental colours was presided over by the Duchess of Atholl and conducted by Captain the Very Reverend Doctor Robert Barbour, KCVO, MC.

Customary Spring weather ensured that spectators and parade participants were all thoroughly soaked. Pictures above by Tom Ironside.

The following day a large crowd turned out to support the Atholl Gathering and was treated to a great display from the Atholl Highlanders accompanied by competing heavy athletes and Highland dancers

The highland games were opened in overcast conditions by his Grace the Duke of Atholl beating the shield andby the firing of the cannon by the Atholl Highlanders. The competitions enthralled the spectators as the weather improved during the afternoon.
