Perthshire Archaeology Month - Event Details
Perthshire also boasts an impressive record of Pictish culture in the form of the well-known sculptures, and Perth itself has long been recognised as one of Scotland’s most important medieval Royal burghs. Indeed, the archaeology of Perth, the Royal burgh established by David 1st in a charter of 1126, is a focus of this year's programme. Walks & Talks The launch of a new, colourful booklet on the origins and development of medieval Perth, will take place at the ‘Archaeology in Progress’ Conference on the first day of the programme, 27 May. To complement this, a number of guided walks and talks concentrate on illustrating the importance of Perth in Scottish history. The varied programme of activities, excavations, events, exhibitions, guided walks and talks will ensure there is something of interest for all ages. (Here a group is pictured trying out underwater archaeology) A printed programme is available from tourist information centres and participating organisations, or from the websites www.perthshire.co.uk/archaeology and www.pkht.org Contributors Perthshire Archaeology Month is organised by a consortium of local and national organisations including: Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, Historic Scotland, the Scottish Crannog Centre, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Dunkeld and Birnam Historical Society, Breadalbane Heritage Society, Dunning Parish History Society, Perth and Kinross Council, A.K.
