Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP was developed by John Grinder and Richard Bandler.

Neuro – the nervous system , the mind and the sensory organs which we receive and filter information through our five senses. Linguistic – the way we communicate and interpret experience through language, including body language, images, sounds, feelings, tastes and smells.

Programming – the way we construct personal programs of thought, communication and behaviour

NLP is a collection of tools derived from the works of Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls and Milton Erickson. It can be described in many different ways, such as the study of how we think and communicate with ourselves and with others, and of how we can use this to get the results we want; the art of communication, modelling excellence, language patterns, goal setting, influencing peopl for positive change work and empowering individuals.

These tools are used widely in the areas of: therapeutic work, hypnosis, training, coaching, business management and sales. NLP has an internationally recognised qualification which requires a pre-defined training period by recognised trainers. The NLP practitioner course includes both Time Line Therapy and Modern Hypnosis.

Time Line Therapy is a therapeutic tool created by Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall. It is a simple yet very powerful technique for removing emotional baggage without the need for the client to relive or even remember the original event. Additionally, the same principal can be used to remove limiting decisions (whenever they were made) which are effecting the client’s behaviour, and it is very useful for removing anxiety about future events.

The simplest definition of Hypnotherapy I have come across to date, is that from Nathan Blazak who observes: “Hypnosis is a state of focused relaxation”. The hypnosis taught in NLP is a mixture of the traditional and Ericksonian, with most work being done in a very light “waking state”

All of the above therapies can be used separately or integrated into a treatment session. NLP can be used for many issues such as dealing with fears, phobias, trauma, habits, self-sabotage, lack of confidence, life planning, limiting beliefs, emotional baggage, smoking cessation, relaxation and many more.
