Community Garden: Prestigious Programme

BBC’s Beechgrove Garden celebrated, in its recent airing, the outstanding collaborative project achieved in creating the community garden at Camserney.
The site of some 2.5 acres adjacent to the main road, generously donated by Alex Murray for the project, had undergone a spectacular transformation in the few weeks running up to filming for the broadcast.

The working committee to achieve the tight landscaping schedule was headed up by Roddy Kennedy of Borlick and brought in support from many parts of the broader community - from neighbouring agricultural and commercial concerns, such as WB Grieve Groundworks, to the Perthshire Highland Horticultural Society and even the reserved firefighting team which undertook the pond filling on the site.

Aired on 29 June the programme featured not only the garden but also various locations in and around Aberfeldy, highlighting the spectacular scenery of the area. Roddy Kennedy told Comment “I enjoyed watching the programme, and thought that it was an excellent advert for the valley.”

Heather Cumming of Iron Fairy in Keltneyburn, who constructed and donated the attention-grabbing metal structure that now occupies the garden's 'sculpture hill' (looking eastwards down Strath Appin towards Aberfeldy), is pictured overseeing its set-up.

Continuing Work

As work is continuing throughout the summer in the garden, Roddy added: “We are working towards drawing up a rota of volunteers to weed and water over the next few months, and we are eagerly looking for more folk to contribute to this since they learned about the project’s aims from the telly.”
