40 Take Part in Youth 'Breathe' Event

‘Breathe’, a new event run by the Church of Scotland in Aberfeldy, went wild at the end of October with around 40 young people aged 12 - 17 taking part in a variety of activities including Street Sports for All and Bucking Bronco, with live music from Simple Cross.
This is a unique event held bi-monthly for young people throughout Highland Perthshire that is run by young people in S5 & S6, and overseen by Church youth work co-ordinator Franny McGrath. He said: “‘Breathe’ is about the Church connecting with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds so that they can see the relevance of the Christian faith to their daily lives. We look to challenge young people’s attitudes and values through building up relationships with them so that they are able to positively contribute to their community.”
Franny added: “Most young people are respectful, well behaved and full of energy that can be tapped into to benefit the wider community, and it’s time we started focusing on these qualities to bring about a change of mindset towards them.”

The young leaders who run 'Breathe' are in the process of setting up their committee to apply for funding to continue running this event next year, if successful it will be held monthly.
Temple Gallery artist and businessman Ryan Hannigan, who delivers the talk at each event, reckoned that it is an absolute pleasure to be part of ‘Breathe’. “The young people are fantastic and get fully involved, this is a great opportunity for them to mix with friends in a safe positive environment,” he said.
The next event will be a joint Christmas celebration with young people from Youth Group, Rock Steady and Breathe on the 15 December.
Anyone wanting further information or interested in assisting the group to generate funds should, in the first instance, contact Franny McGrath on 07988 878621 or email franny@ymcaperth.com.

Primary School Promotes 'Pink' Day
AS PART of Breast Cancer Awarness month youngsters at Grandtully Primary School took part in “Wear it Pink Day” by paying a small fee to dress in pink.

Pupils and staff (pictured above) also had pink items in their tuck shop that day.

As a result of their efforts £71.35p was raised for this charity.

Meanwhile, at Breadalbane Academy on 27 October, the pupils had to wear a significant piece of pink clothing and pay £1.00 each. The picture below shows some of the pupils who, altogether, raised the magnificent sum of £600.

Well done to everyone!
