Abbeyfield Pitlochry - 30th Anniversary
THE HANDSOME Victorian villa, Sunnybrae, in Atholl Road, Pitlochry is marking its 30th year as an Abbeyfield Home. During an open day on 23 July there was a small ceremony to celebrate the completion of succession of improvement works on the building.
Blair Macnaughton, chairman of Abbeyfield Pitlochry, explained to Comment that the home had recently benefited from a donation made from the proceeds of the sale of the Abbeyfield premises in Comrie.
From this sum of £21,000, most of the windows were double glazed, the heating boilers were renewed and general refurbishments conducted.
Subsequently, £25,000 was received from an anonymous donor. This sum, by converting to ‘gift aid’, was augmented by a further £7,000 and then supplemented by a tranche of £8,000 made by the Friends of Pitlochry Abbeyfield. |

These last sums together enabled the building of an extension to create a residents’ sunroom. This was formally unveiled at the open day by former chairman Mrs Lavinia Gordon of Lude.
The home is currently full and there is a healthy waiting list of aspiring residents.
