Aberfeldy, Scotlands’ pioneering and 1st Fairtrade town will host its annual fashion show on the 20 October during One World Week 2006 whose slogan for this year is “Mind the Gap”. This aims to highlight the global gap between the rich and the poor, the local gap of inequality and discrimination and individually to care for the earth and its resources, writes Julie Riddell.

The annual show, which is once again to be held in Breadalbane Academ, is run by the Aberfeldy Fair Trade group in collaboration with the Art and Design department at Breadalbane Academy is a diary date not to be missed.

Chris Walls and Matt Mackie from the Black Watch Inn in Aberfeldy have kindly agreed to return to introduce the diverse range of fashion wear and accessories on the as well as entertain the huge audience.

The cat walk will come alive as students strut their stuff to a reggae beat as the show kicks off with junior students at the art & design department who will model their range of accessories crafted from felt. Then the Aberfeldy Fair Trade group will model a stunning range of cloths as well as accessories. Karen Stewart and Emma Fraser, both former pupils of Breadalbane Academy and now final year students at Duncan of Jordanston College of Art and Galashiels Scottish School of Textiles will inspire with their innovative fashion designs. Higher and advanced higher sections will follow with their range of fashion items and accessories.

There will be Fair Trade goods on sale with Cake and Candy stalls, refreshments and home baking to round off the evening.

Tickets are £3.50 (£2.50 concession) and are available from Highland Gifts Bridgend Aberfeldy or at the door on the night. The show starts at 7pm. This promises to be a tremendous evening and all in a great cause.
