Herbalist’s Garden Midsummer Open Day

The herb garden at Pitnacree looked wonderful on 25 June and, even though there was a wet start, the weather soon changed and out came the sun.
The the Heart of Scotland Herb Society (HSHS) set up its stall at the entrance next to the garden plant stall. The ladies from Ayton WRI came and did a marvellous job providing a café and served food and refreshments all day much to the great delight of the visitors.
Stall holders gathered in the lower grassed area and made a normally quiet area of the garden seem very busy and colourful.

Beekeepers came with their demonstration hives and lovely honey; Heilan Hands gave sample sessions of alternate therapies and did face painting; Ben made besom brooms and was First Aid man for the day.

Fair Trade brought along a selection of goods made by people in third world countries; Bearfoot Books brought a selection of children’s books; the Real Nappy Service surprised all with a fantastic selection of alternative environmentally friendly nappies. Diana Horsfall brought her willow work and demonstrated her craft throughout the day; Mrs Funky Junk amused the happy children, there were plants, cards, lavender bags, creams, organic vegetables and soap from Tribe.
Garden and dispensary tours, spinning demonstrations and workshops on making lotions & potions were very popular. All in all, a great day enjoyed by everyone who came along. Special thanks to those HSHS members who helped on our stall and supported the garden on a special day of the year.
HSHS meetings are now finished for the season. To all our members, have a happy summer and see you again in October for another season of learning about herbs.
