'Mind the Gap': One World Week Theme
‘Mind the Gap’ is the theme for One World Week this year. One World Week, started by the churches in Britain in 1978, is now a worldwide movement bringing together people from very different backgrounds. The Mind the Gap theme shows a readiness to be aware of the gaps, between haves and have-nots, rich and poor, free and oppressed, AND to take action to overcome them.
Here in Highland Perthshire we concentrate on fair trade to reduce the gap between haves and have-nots. Activities already planned are:
Thursday 19 October at 7.30pm in the Locus Centre, Aberfeldy Heartland Film Society will screen ‘The Constant Gardener’. This film show is open to all: tickets, £4 for adults, £2.50 for under 16s, will be available at the door.
Friday 20 October at 7pm in Breadalbane Academy a Fair Trade Fashion Show run by the Art and Design Department of the Academy in collaboration with Aberfeldy Traidcraft Group. Tickets, £3.50 and £2.50 for concessions, include refreshments and are available from Highland Gift Shop, Aberfeldy.
