Shoebox Appeal - Outstanding Success

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this years “Shoebox Appeal” the most successful yet – that’s a brilliant 7 years in a row, writes organiser Ali Edwards. We sent 912 shoeboxes, £1017.46 towards transport and a mountain of food, clothing and bedding.

Special mention must be given to the Breadalbane Academy Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteers who worked so enthusiastically from August promoting the Appeal. This included cutting up a mind-blowing 10,000 lists which they politely thrust upon shoppers in Perth, whilst wearing sandwich boards along with Andrene, Allan and Roger Bolton who helped make this advertising day so successful.

Pitlochry schools contributed 250 boxes and 12 smiling volunteers for the collection day, which was fantastic.

Special thanks to MISWACO for the use of their window and to all the shops who contributed so generously towards the display. Sadie Anderson wrapped 200 shoeboxes and volunteered her home to become filled with shoebox parafinalia, which was fantastic and very brave.

Thanks especially to Gail, Christine, Christina, Gordon, Pat, Pam, Anna and Katie for checking boxes through-out the day, and to Ken for the yummy soup lunch.

Ella Barrie arrived with arms full of cute knitted teddies, which contributed, to a wonderful array of knitted donations. Maise Stevens was again a quiet star arranging the transport and the “Bring and Buy” which was very successful – thanks to all who helped and contributed towards this, my jam store is now looking very healthy for another year!

There is a DVD available for anyone to see of people receiving boxes in Romania which shows what a wonderful thing we have achieved as a community, contact Ali on 01887 829343.
