Tractor Run Fundraiser Success

The annual tractor road run of the Highland Perthshire Branch of NFU Scotland took place on Sunday 23 July. A record total of 28 tractors were involved this year ranging from a 1953 David Brown Crop Master, to a 2005 Massey Ferguson ’54 65’. The youngest drivers on the day were 17 year olds Jane Bell and Gregor Forrest with the oldest being Ian Thomson at 73.
The route for the day once again took drivers from W B Grieve’s yard in Aberfeldy, over Wade’s Bridge, past Castle Menzies and on to Kenmore across Duneaves Bridge. From Kenmore the tractors climbed above Loch Tay onto the Glen Quaich road, where a picnic lunch was enjoyed by all the drivers. Next stop was the Amulree Hotel for light refreshments, very welcome on such a hot day.
This annual event is growing in popularity and one of the organisers, Sandy Thomson of West Park Farm, Aberfeldy, told Comment: “This has been a great day out for everyone and we are delighted by the amount of money raised.

“Our thanks go to Willie Grieve of W B Grieve Groundworks who not only helped organise this event, but allowed us again to use his yard as our starting off and finishing point.”

Prize Winner

The competition to guess the average age of the tractor drivers was won by Catriona Lackie. She was one of 8 people who guessed this to be 49 years and 3 months. Catriona’s name was pulled from a hat and she wins a bottle of Vintage Malt Whisky.
"So far, monies collected have amounted to an amazing £830 which will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and The Royal Highland Educational Trust. It is hoped that this total will rise over the next few weeks as the outstanding monies are collected," added Sandy.
