Woodcraft Folk - Moves to Start A Local Branch

WHAT'S SO FUNNY about peace, love and understanding? My partner Jo, the kids and I would like to be part of a local Woodcraft Folk group and, as there isn’t one in the area, this is an incentive for starting one, writes Jacqui Hazzard

Woodcraft Folk is a unique progressive educational movement for children and young people – both girls and boys - designed to develop self-confidence and activity in society, with the aim of building a world based on equality, peace, social justice and co-operation. Through its activities, Woodcraft Folk tries to give its members an understanding of important issues such as the environment, world debt and global conflict, with a key focus in recent years being sustainable development.

Regular Activities

Groups meet weekly, enjoying a varied programme including games, drama, discussion, projects, crafts, as well as following an educational programme based on awareness of issues both local and global. There are a number of hostelling and camping activities throughout the year. Opportunities for international camps and exchanges are also open to young people.

The organisation provides an informal and supportive environment for young people to develop their ideas, share experiences, explore opportunities and make life-long friends in their locality and beyond.

Is there anybody else in Highland Perthshire that would like to help form a local group? You don’t have to have children to be involved - you might simply wish to see some of the above ideals become more mainstream in our society and have some time free to help bring it about through your involvement.
