Thrifting the ‘Terrible Twins’ Style

TO BOOST THE FUNDS for the Comfort Fund at Dalweem residential care home in Aberfeldy, Jenny Shaw and Eileen Robertson - ‘the terrible twins’ - kindly offered to organise and staff the local thrift shop for the week running up to Aberfeldy Show.

With the help of Jim Reeves singing in the background (aye, he’s alive and well, and living in Fearnan), they did a sterling job,. They made everyone laugh at their corny jokes and ensured that all made a return visit, if not to buy something, then just to listen to the banter and to Jim singing.

One lady, on seeing that there were only fruit scones for sale on the homebaking stall, asked if there was any plain ones. “Would you like me to pick the currants out for you?” was Jenny’s reply, met with hoots of laughter from everyone…and the lady then proceeded to buy two more bags of scones.

On one occasion Jenny dressed up as PC Plod and Eileen looked a dead ringer for Wurzil Gummidge, making a sight to behold. Soon the shop was bursting at the seams.

With the constant ring of laughter, accompanied by the ringing of the till, the ‘terrible twins’ made nearly £1600 for the Dalweem Comfort Fund. When they presented the enormous cheque they were given a gift each by Mary McRorie, the longest-standing resident, in appreciation for all their hard work

Many thanks go to everyone who supported the shop, and who helped in any way. The biggest thanks must go to Jenny and Eileen for a week of laughter and joy. Will they do it again next year? Watch this space.
