Not Just A Lunch Club...

‘Horizon’ is a user-led service set up to enable older people to meet up and spend recreation time together.
It provides a means for them to air some of the issues affecting their health and wellbeing, particularly those relating to their dietary needs. The aim is to help them to feel confident and able to make their views known to the relevant planning authorities.
In the Aberfeldy locality there is a proposal to convert a large day room in Dalweem into a Learning & Resource Centre to benefit the concerns of older people and their carers. From here ‘Horizon’ intends to promote a sense of community by bringing a better understanding of the needs of an ageing population in today’s society. It will also strive to work collaboratively with all those providing a service to older people at the community level.
Its chairman is Ronnie Williams, the treasurer is Jean Mowbray and the co-ordinator is Lloyd Girling of Age Concern. Group members are Jane Harbit, Annette Inglis, John Wackett and H Gordon. The

llocal authority people on the group are Margaret Quinn (Unit Manager, Dalweem), Kathleen Frew (Locality Manager), Caroline Bell (SSCO) Dalweem, Helen Flately (Community Education Officer), and P&K C’llr Ken Lyall.
The group made a successful application for support to the Co-op community Fund and, in early March, a presentation of £500 worth of vouchers was handed over to Horizon to assist its work.
