£4800 Award for Birnam Music Promotions Group

THE FIDDLE TREE, the Birnam-based non-profit making group which promotes music and dance events in the Birnam / Dunkeld area, has been awarded a grant of £4800 by The Scottish Arts Council via the "Awards For All" scheme.

The money has been used to purchase a sound and light system for use by the group at future events, along with a hand painted silk stage backdrop specially commissioned and created by local artist Monica Hand.

Douglas Ritchie, secretary of the Music Across Perthshire organisation, presented the award to The Fiddle Tree's vice-chair, Martin Hadden in the Baronial Hall of the Birnam House Hotel when the equipment and backdrop were delivered earlier this week.

Martin said that the group are "absolutely delighted by the award which we feel to be a clear endorsement of The Fiddle Tree's achievements in bringing a range of highest quality performers to this area".

He added that "The quality of sound and visual presentation are very important factors in all live performances and the provision of this equipment and stage backdrop will help enormously as we strive to maintain the very high standards already achieved".

Previous promotions have included concerts and ceilidh dances featuring touring artists from Scotland, England, Ireland and the USA. The Fiddle Tree has seven more promotions planned for 2005. Their next concert - and first outing for the new equipment - is at the Birnam House Hotel on Friday, 22 April when top Scots traditional band "Jock Tamson's Bairns" will be performing material from their new album "Rare", due to be released in early April on Greentrax Recordings. Awards for All is a consortium of the Community Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, New Opportunities Fund, Scottish Arts Council and sportscotland.
