British Blues' Main Man'

British Blues legend Tony “TS” McPhee will appear at the Birnam House Hotel on Wednesday, 27 September, kicking off a seven-date Scottish tour that also includes dates in Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow. The concert, which starts at 8.30pm, is the latest promotion by Birnam-based voluntary group “The Fiddle Tree”.

Tony McPhee is a founder member and frontman of The Groundhogs, the UK’s premier Blues/Rock band of the 1970’s and 80’s. The band worked extensively with John Lee Hooker and Champion Jack Dupree, toured with the Rolling Stones and released a string of top-selling albums, most notably “Thank Christ For The Bomb”, “Split” and “Who Will Save The World”.The Groundhogs continued with various line-ups until they disbanded in October 2004. Since then, Tony has worked both as a solo artist and as a duo along with his partner, Joanna Deacon, who will be joining him on this tour.

Cited as an early influence by Eric Clapton, and described by Captain Sensible (of The Damned) as “the genuine article”, Tony McPhee has long been acknowledged to be one of the finest guitarists - and one of the main men - of the British Blues Scene.

At the Birnam Hotel concert, he and Joanna will be performing acoustic numbers from Tony’s latest album “Blues At Ten” as well a range of classic Blues standards.

Tony will also play solo electric versions of some timeless Groundhogs favourites.

Opportunities to hear such an internationally renowned performer in an intimate setting are few and far between, and this is certainly a gig not to be missed.

Tickets are on sale now at The Birnam House Hotel (01350 727462), Birnam CD (01350 727158) and Zigzags in Dunkeld (01350 728666). Prices are: £7 (advance), £9 on the door. As with all Fiddle Tree events, tickets for under-18’s are £3 or two for a fiver.
