Scots Fiddle a Place in Germany
On Wednesday 21 June the Dunkeld and District Strathspey and Reel Society leaves on a week long trip to Germany. Under the leadership of Gordon Walker the Society, supported by various fiddlers from around Scotland, will take part in the 50th Anniversary celebration of the twinning between Perth and Aschaffenburg in Germany.
Aschaffenburg, with a thousand year old history, has many highly decorative historic buildings and is renowned for its open spaces and parks. The Strathspey and Reel Society will play at a variety of events including performance of some fine Celtic Music on a 2 hour boat trip along the River Main.
The Blairgowrie Pipe Band and the Jean Swanston Dancers will also be taking part in the event. The Society’s Peter Butter told Comment: “The trip has been organised by Neil Gonnella and Gordon Walker and I are both sure that everyone will enjoy all the events, making their hard work thoroughly worthwhile.” |

Practice nights for the Society will resume on 14 August when current members and new folk are all made welcome. “An expanding group of youngsters now participates in our events and playing in a group really develops their playing. We actively encourage players of all standards and all ages,” added Peter.
The Society secretary Fiona can be contacted on 01796 482666.
