Success At First Competitive Outing
THE NEWLY-FORMED Pitlochry and Blair Atholl Pipe Band made its first local appearance, opening the Blair Atholl Gala night. It was particularly important, as it was able to parade the trophy that it had just won at its first-ever competitive event at the Inverness Highland Games on 23 July.
The band marched down Blair Atholl’s main street onto the park holding the fun packed gala. Ahead of the band was its newly won trophy, the first of many it is hoped. The band proved a big draw to the annual Blair Atholl Tourism Association Gala night with record crowds attending.
Pipe Major Sharon Kelly said “We are delighted with our success at Inverness, and hope it bodes well for the future. Being able to parade our trophy at our first local appearance has made it even more special. We have been delighted by the support we have received and the reaction of everyone tonight.” |

The band’s new kilts with its striking colours were much admired by the crowds. The tartan chosen was the Drummond of Perth, because of its colours and the association of the Drummonds with the Dukes of Atholl.
The pipe band was formed in November 2004 by a group of local musicians intent on developing the pipe band concept to cover all Celtic music. The band has already forged links with a band from Brittany, with the intention of sending their young members to interact with the young Breton musicians to learn their style of Celtic music.
