31st Annual Junior Piping and Drumming Contest

The competition held in Pitlochry High School on Saturday 21 January attracted a record number of 163 entries.Three piping and three drumming judges worked hard throughout the day to listen to an increasingly high standard of playing.

Pipe Major Andy Renwick and Band President Erhard Penker presented the prizes for 18 different classes, with Pipe Major Angus Clarke announcing the winners. Ian Rodney (in the holiday absence of chairman Alister Walker) thanked the competitors, judges, stewards and all concerned, especially the organiser Gillie McNab who was presented with a bouquet of flowers by piper Sandy Horne.

Prizewinners from the “Vale” (the Robert Wiseman Dairies Vale of Atholl Pipe Band) included: Adam Stewart, Bobby Wardle, Jack Stewart, Shelley Ferguson, Callum Downie, Gavin Stewart, Kirsty Horne, Craig Wilson, Craig Sutherland, Steven

 

Stewart, David Colthart,Eilidh Cameron, Finlay Cameron, Louise McIntosh, Peter McSorley, Eilidh Grant, Arran Sheach and Lewis Taylor.

The overall winner for the under 15 age group was Faye Henderson, Kirriemuir, and the 15- 18 age group was Adam Michie, Strathallan School. Adam, who has just turned 15, is the youngest-ever player to win this age group, and he played with the “Vale” in his younger days before achieving a scholarship to Strathallan.
